Sat 1st Dec 2007 Other
Barrhead B C 1
Giffnock S C County 2
Jack Kirwan (2)

An excellent team performance and a fully deserved victory against an organised and skillful Barrhead side.

In the PMBU the coaches ephasised the need to stick together whatever happened; and never have County played as strongly together as a TEAM than they did today.

This team spirit was exemplified by the response to Lewis's first handling error of the season which led to their first goal(he was freezing):
-not one player moaned or shouted ,indeed we heard several shouts of encouragment
-this semed to inspire the lads who went on to raise their game and play some cracking football for the next 15 minutes
-the first goal was a well worked move out of defence involving Tom, Joe, Craig and a super finish from Jack.
-the second was even better following a great tackle from Tam at right bak, another one from Leo and then sublime interchange between Liam, Paul and another great finish from Jack.

The defence and midfield then closed the game out with skill, strength and determination. Well done to every one of you....you all deserve the praise you got for a fantastic victory!

As regular readers will know, the coaches always accentuate the TEAM spirit and how it takes all 16 players to contribute fully in order to suceed. Whilst this was even more pertinent in today's game, we must make a really special mention of Jack:

We've never seen a player nod the ball onto himself in midfield, run and win a tackle at right back and then try and get on the end of his own cross in the opponents box!Jack was a real 'three-in-one' today (the ref' kept asking how many players we had on the pitch!)

This was the best 35 minutes of any player this season(and there have some crackers), and it has set the standard for everyone in terms of for fitness, hard work, determination and an 'I-will-not-be-beaten' attitude.
Well done Jack from all of your team mates, supporters and the coaches!

How they played:

Lewis - Good handling, never really troubled apart from the snap shot that led to their goal.

Euan - Full of energy and speed, put in lots of telling tackles at crucial times.

Kevin - A confident and effective performance. He's getting better and better every week!

Calum - Marshalled the defence and never gave the opposition time to settle, breaking up their attacking moves time after time.

Tom - Did everything expected from him and more... Helped to create the 2nd goal with superb pass out of defence.

Anton - Good forward runs and tough challenging. Worked back well and helped to shore-up things in left midfield.

Craig - Played his new midfield role with distinction - just like a young Roy Kean. Picked out Jack, with fine pass for 2nd goal.

Mark - Brought usual calmness to midfield with effective passing and probing play. He continually made himself available for the ball by finding space.

Joe - A tower of strength today, good in defence and in attack, went on some mazy runs and played good passes into the danger areas. Got special mention from Ref and was a contender for MOM.

Paul - The ball just seems to stick to Paul's feet when he want's it to... Great runs up-front, creating good chances and setting-up the first goal, by finding Jack with a precise pass. Unlucky not to score following a zig-zagging passing move which started in defence.

Jack - A truly professional performance through-out, up-front, in midfield and in defence. Scored two good goals. A major influence on this game.

Liam - Made space with great first touches on wing, worked back well, helped to retain possession and put-in good passes.

Leo - Hugely influential in midfield role, fought for (and won) just about everything, helping to retain possesion and creating openings.

Tam - Like his namesake, did everything expected of him and more. Always looked capable of dealing with everything the opposition could throw at him, and he did this well.

Coaches comments.

"Another great comeback after going a goal behind. Last time we went 2-1 up against Barrhead we allowed them to fight back to victory... this time we strengthed-up, held our lead and could have scored another in the end. The game was played in good spirit by both teams. Barrhead showed they are a tough side to beat".

"Lets build on this win by concentrating on our passing play - it works".

Coaches' MOM: Jack.
Supporters' MOM :Calum.
