Giffnock S C County 1

Dear Readers,

Well, after a busy pre-season with severalcomings and goings, the first league game arrived after some nifty footwork by the coach yesterday to get an astro pitch as he gambled on the weather not improving...and so it proved.

Everton proved to be godd, competitive and fair opponemts and the game was a credit to both teams. The first 25 mins belonged to County who looked very assured, continuing the movement and passing from mid week. However, we were stopped in our tracks by a 30 yard thunderbolt from their rifgt mid which rocketed in the top corner...Lewis had no chance.

We then struggled a bit altough still having the majority of play but not managing a real shot on goal.1-0 down at half time.

A few changes saw us pick up where we left off but looking increasingly dangerous with Chris and Andy linking up well, both having clear shots wich went over the bar. With Paddy and Conor in midfield promting left and right, and strong tackling at the back with Graham having a stormer, surely the pressure would tell??

Poor old Gus had to be helped to his feet as Anton swept one in on the rebound, but much to his dad's relief(having promosed young Anton a tenner if he scored) the ref gave offside....the ref was seen taking receipt of a brown enelope after the match!!!!!!

However, the equaliser just had to come and a well worked move involving Paddy and Conor saw Andy G run onto a lobbed ball and vollet it into the far corner.....get in!!!!

It then was all action as we pressed forward with Euan setting Martin through with a magnificent ball which just ran on too much....but Everton also looked dangerous for the first time in the match and could have had a penalty but the ref waved play on.

So it ended 1-1 and not a bad start, although the boys looked as though they had lost the cup final;!!!!!!It will be a long slog this year again with tons of football, and all the games will be close now in this league that's for sure!!!!

Supp mom:between Scott's first half performance and Conor's second...well done both of you but Conor just shading it.

Coaches mom: Andy G was all over the left in the first half and put some cracking crosses in, but capped it with an absolute belter of a volley with the ball coming in over his shoulder.....just getting better and better Andy...well done !!!!!!

Come on you Piesss!!!!
